Mentoring and Training
•Description: Mentoring can help people with little experience in a specific area to learn from a more experienced person. Training is intended to provide skills, knowledge and “how to” tips for individuals and teams in specific subject areas.
•Why it is important: Mentoring allows sharing of expertise from people with the knowledge and experience sought by others to help them tap expertise they lack. Training should enhance existing skills and provide new ways/methods/tools/techniques that enhance the expertise in specific areas that help the team achieve its objectives.
•Tools: One-on-one mentoring. Formal courses, tailored to customer needs including 1-3 day seminars/training sessions.
•How Wright Management and Consulting Group performs this task with examples: One-on-one discussions with stakeholders/project owners, interviews, literature reviews, subject matter expert interviews, document results and use appropriate tools to define products and review with customer to fine tune, obtain written agreement to proposed training plan.
